World According to Matt

I am the author of each of the stories on this website and manage the site.  Yep, there's some bugs in the system and I am working on them.  I am not a website ninja - so have a bit of patience while I figure it all out.

Matt is my youngest son, moderately to severely autistic.  He has speech, but difficulty using speech, so we communicate heavily on the more subtle forms of communication.  Matt is learning to use the Internet and Facebook as a form of communication, but he is very wary of it, so it's not often.

Hi,

I am the mother of Michael, who will be 24 on 29 March. Michael is non-verbal and communicates via some gestures, pointing or pictures. We hope to set up an adult activity centre, so that Michael and others with special needs can learn to work and play and have friends and have fun, and that they can lead a meaningful, dignified and quality life.

I am the mother of a 15 year old with Asperger's.  He was diagnosed at 11 after years of testing and therapies trying to figure out what was going on with from about 2 years old.  He began speaking fluently at around 4 1/2 years old after 18 months of speech therapy five days a week.  He is currently in a school for kids with learning differences and appears to be engaged, which is what we hope for...his grades can be just ok as long as he is happy and making an effort to be part of the world.  He has two older, grown siblings.  He adores them.  And we all adore him!

My son Jayden is four years old and was diagnosed with asd about a year ago. When he was first diagnosed, I literally knew nothing about autism. It has been an emotional journey so far. I have learned so much in the last year. Jayden is amazing! He is fascinated with numbers, letters and he can put a puzzle together in no time. I feel blessed in so many ways. I would not change him for the world. 

I have a 26 year old daughter with Autism.
